Quotes from Participants

Summer 2007

Term 1

God showed me dying to myself; patience &kindness; humility; perseverance; how to find joy in everything- temper tantrums & accidents; to see people more through His eyes; showing my love towards others & how to express myself; humility; how blessed I am & how to see the world from a child’s view; to look at life joyfully!; that He makes no mistakes; that He loves us regardless of what we do; that I can do all things through Christ; He is strength & enablement when we serve those who are dependent on us; that these kids are just like me- not that different; that we need discernment about when to correct somebody or set out consequences; to love through the eyes of Jesus & appreciate what I have; that He made everyone perfect & He loves them just the way they are; how the campers take joy in the smallest things

Term 2

God showed me humility, patience, that everyone is valuable; that life can be simple; to not judge somebody by looking at the outside; How He shines through every camper in their own way; that there is true love and the ability to care for someone you just met; to actually listen, be flexible and be His tool is continually incredible; His plans are perfect- when we fall He is there to pick us up; no matter what hardships- anything is possible through Christ; obedience/ having a pure, child-like relationship; not to let any distractions get in the way of my serving whole-heartedly & always encourage no matter how discouraging things may seem; what it means to be truly crushed for someone else; to slow down- simple things in life are the best- to stop & laugh long & hard; that little kids are very observant & innocent- we should listen to them; now I feel completely comfortable around people who have disabilities; what a privilege it is to serve Him- the servant’s heart- Jesus our example; that I really can give all of me & overcome selfishness

Summer 2006
"Martha had a ball All we hear is "camp, camp, camp" She's ready to go back now!"
- A camper's mom.

"The week was definitely crazy at CBTX, along with awesome, fun, memory-filled, and God blessed It was truly amazing!"
- A college staff leader.

"Our whole family has been so blessed by Megan's experience with Camp Barnabas Texas!; She was a different creature when she came home She's even working on her tolerance with her sister! I had to ask, "who are you and what have you done with Megan?!?!"
- A counselor's mom.

"The Lord has been so faithful and has shown Himself in ways that can't even be described It amazes me to think about how perfect He is and how he has manifested His joy and peace in the lives of each kid this week I eagerly wait for the day that we will see their faces in Heaven and they can rejoice in a glorified body and mind The work of the Lord is nothing short of beautiful, and these kids are nothing short of the work of the Lord? Our God not only shows "up," he shows "off"; He not only depicted WHO he is, but he went much deeper, and glorified himself through the campers and staff this week."
- A counselor.

"I'd like to share a moment that brought tears to my eyes. The second cabin to receive the cross was all rowdy boys. Jodi had just spoken to them to let them know this is a time of prayer and reflection. When the cross reached their cabin each boy held onto that cross and it appeared all but one prayed a very heartfelt, sincere prayer. One boy was thankful for the week of camp and for the counselors and he added not only that the counselors were there to serve man but to serve God "it was obvious the campers had a great week and were well taken care of and could see Jesus in their week of camp, and the profound impact it made on the counselors was awesome."
- A visiting supporter.
